Featured Artist: Tone The Tantrum

Born in the unforgiving streets of South Jamaica Queens, Tonye Charles grew up trying to find his place in life. He was a child with imagination, and always knew he wanted to change the world with his dreams. Tonye developed a love for the arts at a very young age. He credits his brother for introducing him to different genres of music, and ultimately changing his life forever. He learned how to write, and perfected his skills at any chance he could get. As his passion for the craft developed, he began branching out on his own, writing his first song at the age of 10; Tonye has been blazing his own trail ever since then.

However, as a teenager, Tonye was introduced to a life style that would force him to lose his way, and jeopardize his future carrier goals. Later, at the age of 19, he was convicted of an assault charge and served time in prison. Feeling that the world was moving while his life was at a stand still, Tonye regretted being there but, started to look at the situation as a blessing in disguise. It inspired him to become more driven, not only with his career goals, but with life in general. “Now I feel like I have to be somebody. Someone who can change things in the world through music. I learned a lot about myself while in jail. I was lost before.”

When Tonye was released from prison, his major focus was on his career and writing skills. He came up with the name Tone The Tantrum, which is some what of an alter ego, showing two sides of his personality. Tone, which is short for his first name, meaning a down to earth individual; and Tantrum which showcases his aggressive style. Feeling that the majority of the game is lacking real lyricists, Tone The Tantrum describes his music with one word: substance. His sound is universal, moving everyone who comes in contact with it. At the age of 22, he is still following his dreams and will not stop until they become his reality. “I feel as if I’ve been sent on a mission; and failing is not an option.”
